The Weekly Route: Tyrannical, Bursting, Necrotic, and Awakened

This week’s affixes are Tyrannical, Bursting, Necrotic, and Awakened.

This is a very rough combination of affixes, especially for your tank - they have to look 15 seconds into the future at all times to avoid the nightmare scenario of dying to stacks of Bursting while unhealable due to Necrotic stacks. Necrotic does disappear almost instantly upon dropping combat, but it’s very easy for one mob to live for a few seconds longer than the others, and that can be fatal if your tank hasn’t dropped stacks by kiting as the pack ends. Necrotic is also one of the affixes that most increases the difficulty of boss fights, so the combination with Tyrannical makes some encounters extremely challenging.

The Weekly Routes

Atal'Dazar [back to top]

The toughest part of this dungeon is likely to be Tyrannical/Necrotic Vol’kaal - it’s hard to drop stacks since the boss has a pretty quick attack speed, so consider having someone taunt it for a few seconds halfway through the fight so that you can avoid the tank getting unhealable.

Freehold [back to top]

Captain Eudora is the friendly captain this week, which is good news since it’s Tyrannical week! You’ll still need to watch out for the other bosses - this week in particular, Harlan Sweete can be quite lethal in the last phase if not killed quickly, since his attack speed doubles so he can very quickly stack Necrotic on the tank. It’s still very feasible to fight an Awakened enemy with Harlan, since the first part of the fight isn’t hard.

Kings' Rest [back to top]

Do your best to remove raptors quickly from the King Dazar encounter to stop them from applying too many Necrotic stacks to your tank. You can save your bloodlust for that fight or use it on Kula the Butcher - Kula tends to be the better lust if your tank can handle Necrotic Dazar, but in a pinch you can use it to help there and shift more pressure on to the healer during Kula the Butcher.

Shrine of the Storm [back to top]

Most small enemies in this dungeon do not burst, with the notable exception of Tidesage Initiates. Make sure to avoid stacking too many bursts while your tank still has Necrotic stacks! In some cases the fastest strategy will be to just accept that the tank’s gonna die and just kill everything and then rez.

Siege of Boralus [back to top]

Our Siege of Boralus route is based off the Horde pathing and will require some modification if you’re Alliance.

There are a few pulls that will quickly put out high Bursting stacks on the group as Necrotic begins to ramp up on your tank - early kiting is a good option against these, or powering through with defensive cooldowns. You’ll also need to be careful if you’re using Spotters to kill stuff - you may refresh your Bursting stacks if you aren’t careful!

Temple of Sethraliss [back to top]

The good news is that Bursting isn’t too much of a problem in this dungeon. The bad news is that Tyrannical and Necrotic can be very hard to handle, especially on Galvazzt, a boss that you really can’t kite to drop stacks. If you can avoid wiping in the dungeon and you can defeat that boss, you can almost certainly beat the timer no matter how slowly you pull. Great classes to bring this week to help your tank are those with immunities and taunts, like Havoc Demon Hunters, Holy/Retribution Paladins, and Arms Warriors, as that combo can facilitate dropping Necrotic during that crucial third boss.

The MOTHERLODE!! [back to top]

This dungeon is not actually that bad this week. There are a few small enemies that will stack a bit of bursting on the group, but there aren’t swarms of them, and there are a few large enemies that are not crowd-controllable so they’re hard to kite, but these often stand still to cast, which can give an opportunistic tank the ability to open up some distance and drop Necrotic stacks.

The Underrot [back to top]

Sporecaller Zancha is a boss with a bit of a strange behavior - while it’s channeling the Festering Harvest, it will continue to melee the tank if they’re in range, so the tank has to be sure to step back if they want to use this time to drop Necrotic stacks.

Tol Dagor [back to top]

Depending on your group’s composition, you may want to free all the Irontide Raiders before engaging Jes Howlis - otherwise you’ll have to fight them with the boss and that can very quickly stack Necrotic to lethal levels on your tank. If you have big bursty AoE cooldowns like Combustion or Avenging Wrath then it’s usually safe to let them come during the fight, but otherwise you’ll likely want to kill them first and remove a pull or two from later in the dungeon (as they give count only if pulled before the boss fight).

Waycrest Manor [back to top]

One boss that can be surprisingly challenging this week is Raal - if you aren’t quickly killing the adds he spawns, they’ll add a bunch of Necrotic stacks to your tank, and if those adds are still up when the boss starts his cast sequence, that natural opportunity to drop stacks disappears. Focusing on taking out those adds quickly goes a long way!

Mechagon Junkyard [back to top]

Huge amounts of damage are available in this dungeon if you can get 5 Spark bots on your side quickly - prioritize damage dealers with the highest haste, and be on the lookout for Grease Bots for everyone and Welding Bots for the tank, players with Twilight Devastation, and then everyone else.

Mechagon Workshop [back to top]

There’s little choice in Workshop pathing except whether or not to fight an Awakened enemy with the last boss. The least useful Obelisk is that of The Blob, which is conveniently one of the easiest enemies to fight with bosses. It does save quite a bit of time to do this, but with Tyrannical and Necrotic active you may want to play it safe and avoid making the fight any harder.
