The Weekly Route: Tyrannical Prideful Basics!

This week’s affixes are Tyrannical, Bolstering, Storming, and Prideful.

If this is the first week you’re breaking into +10 or higher keys, learn more about Prideful in our Shadowlands Mythic+ Affixes guide! There’s good reason to venture into those keys this week, as end of dungeon rewards have increased to 207 for +10s or higher, and 210 for +15s. The Great Vault rewards are also compelling, featuring rewards at item level 220 for +10 keys, 223 for +12s, and 226 for +14.

As it’s still early in the season, the routes in this article are mostly the same as last week. Some dungeons have received updates to the Simple Prideful route - Plaguefall chief among them. For Sanguine Depths, we’re offering a more complicated route with a few skips involved to set up better Prideful timings in addition to the simpler no-skips route from last week.

Since this is our first Tyrannical week, the text of this article will focus on preparing you for the bosses of each dungeon and discuss how feasible and valuable it is to have a prideful buff for each fight.

The Weekly Routes

De Other Side [back to top]

Prideful onto three of the four bosses in this dungeon is quite easy to accomplish - our route does it without any fancy skips, it just requires a bit of a zig-zag pattern at the start of the dungeon. It’s possible to engineer a pride into Mueh’zala, but this isn’t super helpful since the dps check doesn’t begin until late into the fight, so we don’t bother trying to set it up.

Halls of Atonement [back to top]

Pride lines up easily on all but High Adjudicator Aleez in this dungeon, and that fight isn’t too challenging even on Tyrannical. If you’re worried about the prospect of running out of lanterns on that fight, don’t be! One new lantern will spawn with every ghost after the fourth. It’s generally worthwhile to save your Venthyr Gargoyle mind controls for bosses on Tyrannical, but if you’re feeling confident then you can save some time by instead using them to melt the trash, as they do a large amount of AoE damage.

Mists of Tirna Scithe [back to top]

Our route does not provide pride on the first boss, but this is possible and advisable if your group is able to do it - you’d just need to skip a few packs at the start to set this up. Either way, your enemy forces count is impossible to predict with 100% accuracy in this dungeon so you’ll need to be ready to adapt towards the end of the dungeon to fill the bar all the way up. The packs near Tred’ova are generally all great options to get the last count you need and spawn a pride into the last boss.

Plaguefall [back to top]

Our route for this dungeon has changed dramatically since the start of last week - grab the new version below!

Prideful onto Margrave Stradama is vitally important, and very natural given the placement of trash in her room. You should save all cooldowns for her as well, and consider staggering their use throughout the fight so that you don’t spend too long in any phase. Infectious Rain is a killer, but it can be removed by class-based disease dispels and also the Kyrian Phial of Serenity - use these if you have them!

Sanguine Depths [back to top]

If you’re doing this dungeon on a high key level and you have the ability, we’re offering a more complicated route with a few fancier pulls and invis pot skips that sets up Prideful onto all of the bosses. This can be really helpful when the keystone level gets high enough that the bosses start destroying your group, but if you’re not having trouble then you can stick with the simpler strategy.

Spires of Ascension [back to top]

This dungeon has some nasty bosses but the trash is even nastier so Tyrannical week may end up being a blessing. The timer has a little bit of wiggle room if you can avoid wiping, so don’t be afraid to break out some WoW Classic strats and hard CC a few mobs in some of the toughest pulls - particularly the Squad Leader pull before Ventunax.

The Necrotic Wake [back to top]

The bosses in this dungeon can be made easier not only with pride but with the weapons scattered throughout the dungeon. Lining up a good spear hit on the first and/or second bosses with their adds getting hit as well can trivialize them, just be sure to avoid dying while you’re carrying any weapons or you’ll lose them!

Theater of Pain [back to top]

This dungeon is the only 5-boss dungeon in the Shadowlands, and it’s not possible to get Prideful buffs onto more than two or three of them, so buckle up for some challenging boss fights. It’s possible to set up a pride for Mordretha by skipping the very first pulls of the dungeon and then doing them after you port back up at the end, but this complicated strategy might not be necessary for your group so only do it if you feel like you need to. In general, Xav is a nice boss to have pride for if you’re optimizing for speed, as that fight can really drag on and the longer it goes, the more damage you have to sink into banners, but the other two wings have much more technically challenging bosses where you might need the throughput instead, so the choice is yours.
