MoP Classic Challenge Modes Guide: Routes & More!

Welcome, or welcome back, to Mists of Pandaria Classic! Besides being able to experience some of the most stunningly beautiful zones WoW has to offer, you’ll also, at long last, be able to venture into Challenge Modes!
Challenge Modes, the precursor content to today’s Mythic+ dungeons, saw their very first iteration in Mists of Pandaria. They were designed to be just what they say on the tin: challenging! As such, Blizzard implemented some strict scaling and map rules to ensure that the content remained consistently difficult across tiers, no matter the gear, story, or legendary progression players returned with.
Completing Challenge Modes in Mists of Pandaria does not reward any epic gear, but it does reward some pretty unique armor sets, mounts, and a title! You can read more on the rules, restrictions, and rewards HERE.
Your completion time in each dungeon dictates your ending score and placement. The dungeon timers and requirements for

RULES & RESTRICTIONS
- All gear scales down to 463 ilvl; gear at or below 463 remains at full power, so aim for 463 items.
- Hit and expertise caps are still relevant and important after scaling; reforge your Challenge Mode set and zone into CM before you run your first dungeon, just to be sure your stats look good!
- Trinket procs are enabled but scaled appropriately; generally strong stat procs will serve you very well. Darkmoon trinkets are typically quite strong for their ilvl.
- Tier set bonuses, Sha-Touched gems, and legendary cloak procs are all disabled (though the cloak stats themselves are still quite good).
- Enchants, gems, and consumables are all still fully functional and very important!
- Profession bonuses and items all work within the dungeons.
- You can respec/reglyph as needed throughout a CM run if you are out of combat.
- Mass Resurrection is disabled; if you release, you will respawn at the entrance.
- Each dungeon has a set number of enemies you must kill alongside meeting the time requirement – you cannot skip all the trash!
- You can reset a Challenge Mode run as many times as you need, and there is no daily lockout or hourly dungeon cap.

Add-Ons
Consumables
Restorative Amber: This is practically a mandatory item for healers, as it provides DOUBLE the mana regen of any other vendor drink. While Amber is not usable in combat, it will also not break in combat either.
- To break your Amber early, you can use this macro: #showtooltip Restorative Amber
/cancelaura Restorative Amber
/stopmacro
/use Restorative Amber - Requires HONORED with the Klaxxi and is a little pricey!
- Golden Carp Consomme is a cheap alternative, but is not nearly as effective
Invisibility Potions: Highly recommended or required for 7 of the 9 CMs. Keep an eye out for Venerable Potion of Invisibility in MoP Classic.

Drums of Forgotten Kings
Runescroll of Fortitude III
Drums of Speed
Battle Horn: Useful for tanks. Can pull mobs without Misdirection.
Rod of Ambershaping: Undispellable hard CC that doesn't pull when expired.
Salyin Battle Banner: Can help drop combat for resets.
Ra’sha’s Sacrificial Dagger: For intentional deaths to reset Bloodlust.
G91 Landshark: Engineer-crafted AoE rockets.
Rocket Boots Xtreme: Optional for speed-pushing.
Useful Professions

- Engineering-Only Goggles – offer one Meta Gem slot and two crafted Cogwheel slots.
- Synapse Springs are another massive, primary stat tinker that can be macro’d with your minor CDs and used every minute for a substantial increase in DPS.
- Nitro Boosts – amazing belt tinker for speed.
- Invisibility Field – can be alternated with Nitro Boosts if you swap belts.
- Goblin Glider – great for situational movement boosts.

Class-specific Tips
-
Death Knights (particularly tanks) can use Dark Simulacrum to absorb and re-use several hard-hitting spells in CMs dungeons. These have been indicated in each route.
-
Blood Death Knights should be aware that Bloodworms CAN pull mobs and break an invisibility run early!
-
Hunters (with glyphed Camouflage),
Mages (with Invisibility), and
Rogues (with Stealth AND the ever-useful Shroud of Concealment) do not need Invisibility Potions (but should bring a few JUST IN CASE).
-
Shaman bring a huge amount of utility to a CM group, but a glyphed grounding totem is a pretty handy little spell to fling some damage back out at attackers, especially on bosses like Ming the Cunning in Mogu’shan Palace, whose Lightning Bolt hits unreasonably hard.
- Wowhead’s MoP class guides each have a Challenge Mode page with tips, tricks, and profession/gearing advice. Check them out before you head into your first set of CMs!
